Some of today's most important medical breakthroughs are developed by bioengineers. Our teams of engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and healthcare providers have developed engineered tissues, internal and external prosthetics, multiple imaging modalities, and diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
As the field of bioengineering evolves, the master’s degree is becoming increasingly important for advancement in the profession. There is a need for individuals to lead efforts in more specialized roles, especially in the design, development, and operationalization of bioengineering technologies and devices. Master's-level graduates can fill this need.
As a master's student in our program you will:
Prepare for research and professional practice in bioengineering and related fields.
Learn the fundamentals and apply them to advanced work in engineering techniques to solve problems in biology and medicine.
Study with nationally recognized experts the areas of Biomedical Imaging and Devices, Computational Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine, and Neurotechnology and Computational Neuroscience.
Prepare for a career in higher education, industry, or government.

Our Master’s program is a two year program and offers three pathways: thesis, practicum, or strictly coursework. Students wishing to explore a research question can purse a thesis with one of our faculty or affiliates. Our practicum pathway allows students to gain internship experience in industry, government, or in the clinical environment. Increasing numbers of technologies and applications to medical equipment and devices, along with the medical needs of a growing aging population, will require the services of bioengineers, also known as biomedical engineers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment in this field will grow at an annual rate of 4% seven percent from 2018 to 2028. The current median annual salary is $88,550 per year.
